Meet Jeanie McHatton

Jeanie spent forty years in public education as a classroom teacher, elementary principal, and a District Director of Curriculum. Her children and grandchildren came through ABC schools, the same schools she now helps govern. She stays active in education by mentoring new teachers and administrators. Appointed to represent Trustee Area 5, she is already doing the job. Now she is asking you to keep her in it.

  • Forty years in public education. Classroom teacher, elementary principal, and a District Director of Curriculum.
  • Still teaching today. Stays active in education by mentoring new teachers and administrators.
  • Puts money in students’ hands. Directs Distinguished Young Women of Cerritos-Artesia, a scholarship program for local high school juniors.
  • Has skin in the game. Her own children and grandchildren came through ABC schools, so she votes on the district she raised a family in.
  • Shows up beyond the boardroom. She serves on the Cerritos College Foundation Board, volunteers with the Gahr High School Band Boosters, and sits on the advisory board of her alma mater, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy.
The record

What we’ve done together

Appointed to the board in 2025. Already delivering.

1

Pushed achievement higher

Backed the reading and math work that is raising test scores and moving more English learners to proficiency.

2

Built pathways that pay off

Career pathways now reach 3,573 students. Another 470 earned the State Seal of Biliteracy, and 23 finished Early College, 17 of them with an associate degree.

3

Defended strong programs at every school

AVID expanded into the elementary and middle schools, alongside dual immersion, visual and performing arts, and STEM summer programs.

Looking ahead

What comes next

Programs worth coming back for

Fight to keep the programs that make families choose ABC: CTE, Early College, AP, dual immersion, and the visual and performing arts. Strong programs bring families back, and enrollment is what funds our schools.

Careful, transparent spending

Treat every tax dollar like it belongs to the family down the street, because it does. Keep budgets and contracts open to the public, and push every dollar we can toward classrooms.

Every student ready

Keep test scores climbing. Keep the summer STEM, arts, and writing programs running. Send every graduate out ready for college, a career, and life.
